Resource description

New and better solutions are needed to tackle the worsening unemployment crisis in Europe, which rose to a three-year high of 8.5 per cent in January.

However, the European Union’s Lisbon Strategy (which aimed to turn the EU into a dynamic knowledge-based economy by 2010) and ‘flexicurity’ should form the cornerstone of such solutions, said speakers at this year’s European Business Summit (EBS). The EU’s Lisbon Strategy aims to improve its economic competitiveness, while ‘flexicurity’ aims to support an optimal balance between labour market flexibility and security for employers and employees.
