Knowledge governance is characterized as a distinctive research subject, theunderstanding of which cuts across diverse fields in management. In particular, itrepresents an intersection of knowledge management, strategic management, andtheories of the firm. Knowledge governance considers how deployment ofgovernance mechanisms influences knowledge processes: sharing, retaining, andcreating knowledge. We survey the papers in this volume of the special issue, anddiscuss the remaining research challenges.
