Resource description

For several decades industrial economics in Michael Porter’s rendering has ruledbusiness analysis in information systems. Have Internet technologies brought the demise ofIndustrial Economics as tool for information systems (IS) analyses? Examples of electronicexchanges indicate a break between business and information models. We critically assessPorter’s analysis of the Internet and exchanges finding relationships, coordination andcomplementarity rather than positioning and activity analysis applicable. Whether to amend ordiscard Porterian models considering the relevance of network economics and collaborationmodels for information systems analyses concludes our discussion.
