Based on research and consulting experience in large multinationals, this paper deals with corporate renewal. As innovation increasingly determines competitive advantage, the internal modes of operations, ie the "organizational capabilities", of large corporations have to change. To overcome the self-generated bureaucratic sluggishness of their companies, top managers need to change their concept of structure, decision and effectiveness and engage in a process of organizational transformation. Successful processes link cognitive/intellectual and emotional "discovery" at individual level with collective "learning by doing" to achieve lasting "cultural" change
