Resource description

Innovation used to be an activity that was mainly carried out by companies in industrialised countries. It is still often mentioned as the ultimate defensive strategy for companies in North America, Europe and Japan against low-cost manufacturing and services in China and India. But this not a true picture: there is already a wealth of innovative activities ongoing in emerging countries. For large and small companies from industrialised countries, this is an enormous opportunity to internationalise their innovation value chain. But innovating in emerging countries requires some adaptation in our normal innovation management systems. There are some specific hurdles to innovate, and we can learn from local companies how they overcame these hurdles. Based on a study of more than 30 Asian companies, we provide some inspiration on how to innovate in emerging countries.
