Resource description

Companies that put together a global innovation process, accessing differentiated and dispersed pools of technical and market knowledge all around the world, increasingly win out against more traditional competitors in the global knowledge economy. Mobilizing knowledge from dispersed and differentiated sources increases the value of an innovation, and may also reduce its costs, although growing dispersion of knowledge sources leads to higher costs of access, mobilization and melding, suggesting there is an optimal "footprint" to the innovation process, as a function of the type of knowledge, the granularity of its dispersion, and the organizational capabilities of the company.
