Resource description

The author proposes that in informal inter-organizational networks within industries, network content and relevance are partially contingent on the industry's life cycle stage. Using quantitative and qualitative analysis, he examines informal networks connecting firms and non-firms in three Japanese industries at different life cycle stages: micromachines, semiconductor equipment, and apparel. He finds that over time, networking content shifts away from technology and toward political issues. He further observes that relevance follows a U-shaped pattern over time.
