Resource description

Dear Students:Please pay attention to our 3rd Debate: Women and barriers in the Workplace: THE GLASS CEILING.I expect girls groups to support (1) subject, and boys groups to support (2) statement(1) WOMEN ARE ABLE TO DO THE SAME JOB, WAGE, CONDITIONS AND REACH THE TOP AS MEN(2) WOMEN ARE NOT ABLE TO DO THE SAME JOB, WAGE, CONDITIONS AND REACH THE TOP AS MEN The term "Glass Ceiling" was first coined by two Wall Street Journal reporters in 1986 to describe the artificial barrier in women's careers. The word "ceiling" suggests that women are blocked from advancing in their careers, and the term "glass" is used because the ceiling is not always discernable. Women are still not getting the credit they deserve in one very important place: at work. So, is there still glass ceiling for women in the workplace? Do employers still discriminate against women because they are afraid of them leaving to 'set up home'? Recent studies show that there is still considerable discrimination against women who want to achieve higher goals in their careers. How far do the stereotypes still reach that women only perform certain duties within the work environment. Is it possible to have a career and have children and find the balance between both? Do men now have to re-consider their own roles in society as more and more women choose a career over a family? Issues to consider plz my students: The wage gap: Pay men and women different wages for similar jobs performed in similar conditions, Maternity Leave: Every single women have the right to leave the job with pay for a period of time after having a baby. Hiring policy: anti-discrimination policies, provides case-study examples. Pliz bring ur ppt presentations and 3 questions for your opponents. See u next Thrusday but The Debate is for the next friday dont forget. Have a lovely day. BR Heydi
